One of the key challenges today is the development of the technologies that will allow our engine to comply with exhaust emission standards that will drive 90% reductions in both NOx and Particulates over the next decade. However this is not the only challenge as there are on-going needs to improve engine system efficiency, reduce owning and operating (O+O) costs, develop sustainable technologies as well as new power generation systems for the future.
Engine Research is based at the Technical Centre in Peoria and at Perkins' Peterborough headquarters. The group has the responsibility to develop technologies to ensure that our engines continue to offer solutions that exceed customer requirements.
Engine Research’s programs are currently focused on developing advanced:
# Combustion systems
# Fuel systems
# Exhaust after treatment systems
# Air systems, including turbochargers
# Simulation tools to support the engine businesses
# Sustainable fuels, including bio-diesel
# Other emerging engine/powertrain concepts such as fuel cells, photovoltaic systems etc
Engine Research roles include:
# To work in collaboration with the Engine Divisions to establish and develop the technologies for their future products
# Develop research programs with European technology companies, Universities and Government funding partners that support the engine business.
